Our client is a medium sized growing law firm based in the City of London. The firm is on an exciting transformation journey, and this role will play a significant part in delivering an efficient service to our lawyers and clients.

They are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Revenue Controller.

This role would suit someone who can build and maintain positive relationships with internal stakeholders and who strives for excellence in this area.

Responsibilities 

  • Meeting partners and fee earners regularly to assess unbilled WIP, disbursements, outstanding bills and client account balances to discuss actions required.
  • Monitoring aged WIP and following up proactively, escalating to the Finance Director when needed.  
  • Constant review of client account balances, ensuring the firm is compliant with SRA Accounts Rules.
  • Preparation of monthly billing forecast for MP and FD.
  • Ensuring timely billing, and diligent follow-up on unpaid bills and documenting on practice management system. 
  • Checking VAT and numerical calculations on bills and compliance to VAT and Solicitors Accounts Rules.
  • Make sure disbursements are handled correctly.
  • Preparation of the monthly matter by matter WIP valuation and doubtful debt provision and liaising with the FD on the same.
  • Ensuring the WIP valuation is accurate and complies with revenue recognition rules.
  • Working on positive collaboration with clients and external contacts to confirm payment of all invoices, resolve queries promptly, and enforce payment commitments.
  • When required, providing the matter fee earner with relevant information from client files to initiate legal proceedings. Providing constructive and collaborative challenge around unplanned write offs where appropriate. 
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of all interactions with partners and their clients regarding WIP. 
  • Reviewing significant client exposures, taking action as needed to minimise the firm’s exposure and reduce lock-up.
  • Identifying trends and themes to improve recovery and lock-up, reporting and suggesting responses to Heads of Teams.
  • Setting lock-up targets for each team.
  • Working with colleagues in Compliance to ensure our terms of engagement support our working capital objectives. 

Candidate Profile

  • Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in a Revenue Controller position at a law firm.
  • Strong numerical ability.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience of legal accounts systems (Partner for Windows desirable) and strong understanding of billing processes.
  • Good working knowledge of Solicitors’ accounts rules and VAT.
